Hi there! I’m Simon, a software developer in the Boston area. This Substack is a sandbox for me to play with words and experiment with different writing styles. I’d like to write more because I think writing can be a useful tool for clarifying and stress-testing all of the thoughts that are bouncing around in my head, and persisting them somewhere so I can look back on them later.

To be honest, this space is mostly for me but if you like what you see you are of course welcome to subscribe!

My interests include computer science (especially artificial intelligence, distributed systems, software engineering, formal methods, and pedagogy), hiking (especially in New England and on long-distance trails), philosophy (especially ethics and philosophy of mind), and local affairs in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

I currently work on bringing AI to consumer products at CarGurus. Before that, I spent a little under three years at Amazon Web Services working on distributed file systems for Elastic File System and S3 Files. Before that, I spent a bunch of time studying computer science at UMass Amherst, hacking on robots with labs at UT Austin and MIT. In between school and working full time, I also squeezed in a thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail.
